My father's parents lived in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on their horse ranch two hours east of Dallas. My family always loaded up in the car for the holidays, and no matter where we lived in the continental US, we would drive the 11+ hours to visit them.  Dairy and horse farms surrounded the ranch. When we walked the back road, all the cows would stop and stare at us through the barbed wire fences, and we would stare back.
